If you had told me five years ago that I would be applying to Design School, I would not have believed you. Not because I was not interested but because I did not know it was a path I could pursue. My story is a classic immigrant tale—a single mother moving to the United States with hopes of a better future for her two daughters. While one daughter became a doctor, the other seemed adrift, unsure of her path.
From Math to Management
My journey began in the realm of numbers, just like my mother’s. After earning a degree in math, I embarked on a career as a math teacher. However, it soon became clear that teaching wasn’t my calling. With a desire for a different path, I pursued a master's in business administration, which led me to work in large financial organizations. There, I managed multi-million-dollar budgets and collaborated with high-level executives to tackle complex operational challenges. Yet, despite the prestige and responsibility, I found myself dreading each workday, feeling like just another cog in the corporate machine.
A New Chapter in Cybersecurity
Seeking a change, I joined a high-growth cybersecurity startup. This role was a revelation. I built and scaled processes from scratch, hired a team, and witnessed the company's rapid growth. It was invigorating to see the direct impact of my work and be part of something dynamic and evolving. During this transformative period, my husband and I bought our first home in Brooklyn, which we renovated annually for nine years. Turning a house into a home became a profound joy for me, and I realized how much I cherished the creative aspect of renovation.
Home Renovation as a Passion
When COVID-19 prompted our move to Greenwich, CT, and another home renovation, I was once again consumed by the thrill of transforming spaces. Each project deepened my love for design and renovation. Then, in 2022, my husband and I purchased a summer home on Cape Cod. I poured my heart into this project, and seeing it come to life became one of my proudest achievements.
A New Beginning
Despite the satisfaction of my renovation projects, I was still grappling with what my next career move should be. It was my husband who finally proposed the idea of pursuing interior design. From his perspective, the answer was clear and simple. For me, it was a revelation. The realization dawned that my passion for design had always been there, right in front of me.
Turning Passion into Profession
Today, as I embark on this new chapter of my life with my interior design studio, I am both excited and grateful. My journey from a math teacher and business executive to a design professional and entrepreneur has been anything but conventional. Yet, it has led me to a place where I can blend creativity with purpose, and I am thrilled to see where this new path will take me.
Please join me on my journey as I delve into the world of interior design and transform spaces with passion and vision. Follow along for updates, insights, and inspiration as I navigate this exciting new chapter. Your support and encouragement mean the world to me!
